Southern California Turtle Rescue is a nonprofit animal rescue and rehoming service specializing in aquatic turtles commonly kept within private residential water gardens and backyard koi ponds. As needed, we can also provide rehoming services for various land turtle and tortoise species. Our nonprofit turtle rescue service is run entirely by a dedicated team of volunteers who deeply care about the quality of life for each of the precious shelled creatures we take in. As true animal lovers, seeing our rescued turtles flourishing in their new forever homes gives us a tremendous sense of joy and our mission is to find suitable new forever homes for each of the beloved living creatures entrusted to our care.
Turtles are the most abandoned pets in the USA. This is unfortunate because turtles are also among the easiest pets to care for. When kept within a properly designed turtle habitat, turtles can enjoy very long and happy lives while requiring very little maintenance from their owners. While it is impossible for any organization to simply take in every turtle people claim they can no longer care for, as a nonprofit animal rescue we are dedicated to doing all we can.
Many of the aquatic turtles surrendered to us were originally purchased as babies when they were very small. Unfortunately, larger turtles can be somewhat difficult to maintain within an indoor aquarium. Turtles can be relatively easy pets to care for; however, they do require a knowledgable owner to help treat various common turtle health issues as they occur.
